MARK MITCHELL

Director, Portfolio Manager – Credit
CFA, CMT, BSC (FINANCE)

Mark Mitchell established Daintree Capital in January 2017 and has over twenty years industry experience both in Australia and the USA, specialising in fixed income securities analysis and portfolio management.

Prior to establishing Daintree Capital, Mark was the Head of Credit and Portfolio Manager for over seven years at Kapstream Capital. There, he was ultimately responsible for the development and implementation of the credit research processes and portfolio management until he left in October 2015. Over this time, Kapstream grew to over $10bn in assets under management.

Prior to his time at Kapstream, Mark was a Portfolio Manager/Senior Credit Analyst specialising in global credit securities at Colonial First State Global Asset Management between March 2001 and September 2008.

Before moving to Australia, Mark achieved nearly a decade’s work experience in the USA across a range sectors including high yield, bank loans, commodities, futures and listed equities.

Mark holds a Bachelor of Science (Finance) from the DePaul University (Chicago) and is a CFA Charterholder.

JUSTIN TYLER

Director, Portfolio Manager – Interest Rates & Currency

Justin Tyler is a founding partner of Daintree Capital, responsible for interest rate and currency decisions.

Justin has nearly 20 years of experience in the industry. Prior to Daintree Capital, Justin was a Senior Investment Manager at Aberdeen. There, he specialised in Inflation and Interest Rate decisions and was a member of Aberdeen’s Risk Oversight Group. Justin joined Aberdeen in 2009 following the acquisition of Credit Suisse Asset Management (Australia) Limited.

Prior to Aberdeen, Justin spent over 10 years specialising in fixed income analysis and investment banking with RBC Capital Markets and Colonial First State Global Asset Management.

Justin is a CFA Charter holder and active volunteer for CFA Institute. He also holds a Graduate Diploma in Applied Finance and Investment from the Securities Institute of Australia. Justin graduated from the University of Sydney with Bachelor of Science and Bachelor of Arts degrees, majoring in Pure Mathematics.

SIMON WANG

Senior Credit Analyst
BCOM, BSC

Simon Wang joined Daintree Capital in April 2017 as a Senior Credit Analyst.

Prior to Daintree, Simon worked at Nikko Asset Management as a Credit Analyst for over five and a half years. There, he was the lead credit analyst covering all domestic and international corporate, financial and structured finance issuers issuing into the Australia fixed and floating rate market. At Nikko he also generated alpha ideas based on relative value, market mispricing and quantitative analysis.

Prior to Nikko, Simon worked with Mazers Global Infrastructure Finance, and ING Investment Management for five years as an Analyst within the Fixed Income team analysing structured securities.

Simon has a Bachelor of Commerce and Science, majoring in Actuarial Studies and Mathematics (Statistics). Simon has also completed the first two levels of the CFA.

SIMON LEE

Senior Quantitative Analyst
BSC (HON) PHYSICS, CQF

Simon Lee is a Senior Quantitative Analyst with Daintree Capital, responsible for quantitative analysis and development.

Simon joined Daintree from NAB’s xVA trading desk where he was a quantitative analyst, responsible for developing and managing pricing and risk management tools.

Prior to NAB, Simon worked at Aberdeen Asset Management in Sydney, London and Singapore where he invented a process to improve the efficiency of interest rate risk management for Aberdeen’s fixed income portfolios, as well as developing key systems that handle billions of dollars in transactions for the group.

Prior to Aberdeen, Simon has worked at Colonial First State, ING Investment Management, Morley Fund Managers (London) and Invesco Europe. Simon holds a B.Sc. (Hon) Physics from University College London and a Certificate in Quantitative Finance (CQF).

BRAD DUNN

Senior Credit Analyst
BEC. M APPLIED FINANCE

Brad Dunn commenced with Daintree in May 2017 as a Senior Credit Analyst. Prior to Daintree, Brad was with Ord Minnett for over 10 years.

Brad’s most recent role at Ord Minnett was as Senior Analyst and Portfolio Manager in the Fixed Income team. In this role, Brad was responsible for the portfolio management of an income orientated portfolio and providing modelling and valuation analysis on listed interest rate securities. Brad would also undertake strategic asset allocation advice for Ord Minnett’s internal models.

Brad also gained extensive experience as an equities analyst whilst at Ord Minnett, covering the consumer services, property, mining services, retail, technology and industrial sectors.

Brad has a Bachelor of Economics, majoring in Economics and Finance, as well as a Master of Applied Finance both from Macquarie University. Brad has also completed Level 1 CFA.

ANTHONY PATTERSON

Non-Executive Director

Anthony Patterson has over thirty years experience in the investment management industry. He started with Perennial Investment Partners in April 2000 as Head of Sales and Marketing and was promoted to Managing Director/ Chief Executive Officer in May 2003. During his period as CEO, Perennial became Australia’s largest boutique investment management firm. Anthony stood down from this position in March 2012 to focus his attention on Perennial’s largest boutique, Perennial Value, where he serves as an Executive Director.

In 2016, Perennial Partners Limited was co-founded by Anthony and John Murray. Perennial Partners joins with highly talented investment professionals to own and operate boutique investment management firms. Perennial Partners has some $8.5bn in funds under management across seven boutique investment firms.

Anthony also serves as a director of various Perennial boutiques, including Fairlight Asset Management Pty Ltd, Daintree Capital Management Pty Ltd, Perennial Value Management Limited and Perennial Private Investments Pty Ltd.

KIERA GRANT

Non-Executive Director, Independent Director
BEc, FAICD

Kiera Grant has extensive Board and senior management experience, having spent twenty five years in financial markets. She has financial and strategic assessment knowledge, combined with corporate governance, capital markets and mergers and acquisition experience.

In addition to being a Non-Executive Director of various Perennial Group companies, including Daintree Capital Management Pty Ltd and Perennial Value Small Companies Pty Ltd, Kiera is a Non-Executive Director of ASX-listed companies, Adairs Limited and Future Generation Global Investment Company Limited, where she is also Chair of the Investment Committee. She is also a Non-Executive Director of Samuel Smith and Sons Pty Ltd (incorporating Yalumba Wine Co. and Negociants Fine Wine Distributors).

Kiera is Chair of the Art Gallery of New South Wales Foundation and Non-Executive Director of the Ascham Foundation and a former Non-Executive Director of Pacific Brands Limited and Sydney Dance Company.

Kiera holds a Bachelor of Economics from Sydney University and is a Fellow of the Australian Institute of Company Directors.

DAN BIRCH

Head of Institutional Sales

Dan joined Perennial in February 2018 and has 19 years’ experience working in Financial markets in Sydney and London. Dan brings a wealth of knowledge from his time working on both the buy side and sell side enabling him to discuss in depth, best solutions for prospects and clients.  Prior to joining Perennial, Dan has spent the past 8 years in Australia working for OTCX as Managing Director of the Asia Pacific Business and Russell Investments as a Senior Business Development Manager. Dan spent 11 years in London working on the buy side for SW1 Capital and Crosby Capital as a Portfolio Manager, and on the sell side for Execution Stock Brokers as a Sales Trader and Commerzbank in the Equity Strategy team. Dan holds a Bachelor of Commerce (Finance) and a Bachelor of Arts Honours (Economics) from the University of Otago.

CESAR FARFAN

Head of Retail Distribution

Cesar joined Perennial in November of 2015 and has over twenty years of industry experience, in the areas of funds management and capital markets. Cesar has extensive hands on experience dealing with investors and advisors in Australia and internationally – with acknowledged strengths in presenting wealth management solutions to financial planners, affluent and HNW investors, researchers, private banks, family offices, accounting and legal firms, corporate and superannuation investment committees. Prior to joining Perennial Value, Cesar held senior distribution and product roles at Westpac, MLC, Macquarie Bank, IOOF and Westpac. Cesar holds a Bachelor of Commerce from the University of NSW (Accounting and Finance majors and a minor in Taxation Law), Diploma in Financial Advice from the Securities Institute of Australia and is a Member of SMSF Association.

MARJON CRANDALL

Head of Researcher and Consultant Relationships
BCom(Fin), GradDipAppFin, CFA

Marjon is the Head of Researcher and Consultant Relationships in the Perennial retail sales team. In this role, Marjon is responsible for working closely with research houses, platforms and retail consultants.

Prior to joining Perennial, Marjon spent almost 10 years at Perpetual Investments. In recent years, Marjon also taught workshops on capital markets and corporate finance at the University of Sydney business school.

In earlier years, Marjon held a variety of back office roles in various organisations such as Macquarie Bank, HSBC Australia and Bridges Financial Services. She also spent time working abroad at the Baha’i World Centre in Haifa, Israel and at an English second language institute in Wisconsin, USA.

Marjon has a Bachelor of Commerce with a finance major from the University of Wollongong and a Graduate Diploma of Applied Finance and Investments from the Financial Services Institute of Australasia (FINSIA).

DAVID REDFORD-BELL

Senior Investment Specialist (QLD)

David is a 20 year investment veteran and has worked across a wide variety of different investment types and styles over this time. His experience spans some of the world’s largest investment firms, and includes equities, fixed income, infrastructure, property, private equity, absolute return strategies, hedge funds and exchange traded investments. He has worked in a wide variety of roles including Head of Operations, Senior Strategist, Compliance Manager and Business Development Director and uses this experience when working with financial advisers, institutions, charities and family offices to help them with their investment strategies, objectives and portfolios. He holds two post graduate degrees including a Master of Applied Finance, and is a CFA Charterholder.

MARK TISDELL

Senior Investment Specialist (NSW/ACT)

Mark joined Perennial in November 2018 In the role of Senior Investment Specialist and has over twenty years of industry experience, in the areas of Funds Management and Capital Markets. Mark has accountability for NSW and the ACT, with a key focus on third party and intermediary relationships and distribution channels, including National and independent dealer groups, independent financial advisers, stock broking and private wealth segments and platforms. Prior to joining Perennial, Mark held senior distribution and product roles at Macquarie Bank, RBS, BNP Paribas and Citibank. Mark holds an MBA from the University of NSW (AGSM) a Master of Finance from the University of Technology, along with a Diploma and Advanced Diploma in Financial Planning amongst other qualifications.

GEORGE KATOPIS

Senior Investment Specialist (VIC/SA)

George joined Perennial in November 2015. In the role of Investment Specialist, George is responsible for the development and execution of the distribution strategy for Perennial Value’s suite of investment solutions that meet the wealth creation needs of retail clients in Australia. George has accountability for Victoria, South Australia and Tasmania, with a key focus on third party and intermediary relationships and distribution channels including National and independent dealer groups, independent financial advisers, stock broking and private wealth segments and platforms. George has been in the financial services industry for over 12 years and prior to joining Perennial, was a Regional Manager (Victoria & Tasmania) within the BT Equites & Gearing division of BT Financial Group, and also occupied various business development management roles within the Commonwealth Bank Group including CommSec, Core Equity Services and Colonial Geared Investments.

HUGO BRETTINGHAM-MOORE

Investment Specialist (VIC/WA/TAS)

Hugo joined Perennial in March 2018 as an Investment Specialist. Hugo is responsible for the sales and distribution of Perennial Value’s investment solutions across Victoria, Western Australia, and Tasmania. Hugo works closely with national and independent dealer groups, independent financial advisers, stockbroking and private wealth firms and platform providers.

Hugo has over 10 years’ experience working in financial services having previously been with JBWere. Working in the private wealth management division, Hugo was part of a team that advised on all types of investments from Australian and international equities to derivatives and fixed income. Servicing a client base of not-for-profits, family offices, self-managed super funds and private investors, Hugo has a unique insight into the world of financial planners and advisers.

PYKE GUNNING

Marketing Manager
BBA, RG146, DipFinPlan

Pyke joined Perennial’s marketing team in October 2019.

Prior to joining Perennial, Pyke spent almost 5 years at Pinnacle Investment Management Group, most recently as an Associate Director in the Marketing team.

Pyke holds a Bachelor of Business Administration from the Hogeschool of Amsterdam, along with a Diploma in Financial Planning amongst other qualifications.

CHRISTELLE-HANNAH MANILA

Marketing Executive
BA, MCom, RG146

Christelle joined Perennial in February 2020 as a Marketing Executive.

Prior to joining Perennial, Christelle was an associate at BoardRoom for the Unlisted Managed Funds team. She also has prior experience in private wealth, sales and investor relations.

Christelle holds a Master of Commerce and a Bachelor of Arts from the University of Sydney.
